Watchtower Ethics - Lack Of

Hi all:
In the latest Mormonism Research this quote
was on page 3 about an article quoted by a Mormon writer, Rob Matthews which
dealt with the Ninth Commandment:
"Even sharing the truth can have the effect
of lying when we tell only half truths that do not give the full picture. We
can also be guilty of bearing false witness and lying if we say nothing, particularly
if we allow another to reach a wrong conclusion while we hold back information
that would have led to a more accurate perception. In this case it is as though
an actual lie was uttered..... " Lying and misrepresentation in all of
their forms are wrong, no matter how they may be rationalized and those who
silently let these evils pass unchallenged are also doing wrong"...There
are many ways in which language is twisted, warped, or packaged to convey misleading
thoughts"
The part that really hit home to me was "those who silently let these evils pass unchallenged" who are as guilty of the evil they think their
keeping silent about.
This was perfectly demonstrated in the Watchtower
organization in their treatment and dealings with Raymond Franz. He brings out
in his book Crises of Conscience that "rumors spread UNCHECKED" about
him around the globe and the Watchtower sat back and did nothing. The result
of this was that "..every Witness who passed these on was speaking, even
if unwittingly, false testimony against his neighbor" Crises of Conscience
p. 270
In a file posted some time back I brought out
the "Community Responsibility" Jehovah's Witnesses ALL share when
a member is disfellowshiped. To see the JW's act so honest in other matters
and become so "criminal" when it comes to spreading and allowing slander
and defamation about it's exited members is EVIL and cowardice and we KNOW the
future of COWARDS. [nwt Revelation] 21:8 But as for the COWARDS and those without
faith and those who are disgusting in their filth and murderers and fornicators
and those practicing spiritism and idolaters and all the liars, their portion
will be in the lake that burns with fire and sulphur. This means the second
death."
Bob Gray had a wonder full post about higher
education yet all with discernment see the old viewpoint where if it BENEFITS
the Watchtower and ONLY them, then higher education is OK. The Watchtower would
go berserk if the majority of it's members went to college because there would
be no members in the field getting contributions for their BILLION dollar empire.
As to higher education promoting "ethics"
amongst it's followers look no further. Joseph ( the boozer ) Rutherford used
his higher education to act as unethical as any lawyer could. Was it not him
who took Charles Russells will and testament and violated it? Russell made plain
in his LEGAL WILL there was NOT a need for another publication other than the
Watchtower, yet, Rutherford came out with this news about a new publication
called the Golden Age at a convention on May 4, 1919. This went against Russells
WILL.
Russells Will stated:
"As the Society has already pledged to
me that it will publish NO OTHER PERIODICALS, ( Caps mine ) and it shall also
be required that the Editorial Committee shall write for no other publications
in any manner or degree". WT. 1916 reprints p. 5999
Can you say, UNETHICAL!!!
That's what higher education did for Mr. Rutherford,
maybe that's why the Society was against it for so many years. Maybe they saw
what it did to Joe the boozer in his not allowing of Russells intentions in
his WILL
Joe Rutherford did stop there. His treatment
of Olyn Moyle ( 1939 ) would be an embarrassment to any organization. Rutheford,
a man noted for his "burst of anger, discrimination, vulgar language"
and last but not least dipping into the still more times than W.C.Fields. He
proved HIS higher education and ethics by taking a letter written by then legal
counsel Olyn Moyle and regarding it as "nothing short of apostasy"
for counseling his (Joe the boozer) unchristian habits. Rutherford showing his
skills of a (unethical) lawyer and wrote scathing articles in the Watchtower
about this "man" which was nothing but slander and libel. Poor Joe
the boozer, he and the Watchtower were sued by Olyn Moyle and had to pay 15
thousand dollars in damages. Yet, to the every day Watchtowerite Joe Rutherford
was a hero, with two 16 cylinder Cadillacs and homes in California and Statem
Island. Joes motto was, I will take on the churches but just don't take on me.
To bring it up Ray Franz again see what the
Watchtower say's about him because "they silently let these evils ( about
him ) go unchallenged" when asking the Watchtower operators about him or
the legal department.
So by keeping silent about Ray Franz the Watchtower
shows it's true colors. Of course IF you have a chance to talk about Raymond
Franz and the unethical and cowardly things the Watchtower did to him to other
JW's ore elders you will get the old standby "we don't know the other side
of the story" This is after Raymond Franz has written over 1000 pages from
two books explaining what happened while he was a governing body member up till
1980. If two books don't tell the other side of the story I don't know what
does. Those two books Crises of Conscience and In Search
of Christian Freedom.
Yes, how the average JW is kept from seeing
the REAL Watchtower and the REAL way the Watchtower has hid it's past about
Joe (The Booze) Rutherford and the unethical things he did in the name of "pure
worship" It don't get any more evil than that.
YES, lying and misrepresentation is WRONG but
don't fear we have a good teacher, the Watchtower organization.
